She is the daughter of Natalie and Edward Ortega. Her father belongs to Mexican ancestry, while her mother is of half-Mexican (with roots in Sinaloa) descent and half-Puerto Rican.

Jenna shared a statement about her ethnicity in which she said that she is 25 percent Puerto Rican and 75 percent Mexican. Her great-grandma from her mother’s side moved from a small ranch near Sinaloa, Mexico.

Her great-grandma migrated alongside her four daughters to the United States, and it was known that they lived as illegal immigrants. The reason for her migration was to provide a better future for her daughters. 

She wanted her daughter to speak “perfect English.” Jenna said that her mother’s father was born in Puerto Rico. While being a baby, he, alongside his family, moved to New York. During his high school days, his family moved to California. 

She said, “My father is 100% Mexican, but his family moved to California generations before he was born. Spanish died down in his family, so he is not fluent. We are not really sure which part of Mexico my dad’s family is from.”

It was confirmed by Jenna Ortega that her paternal grandfather’s name was Anthony Larriva, “Tony” Ortega. Anthony was the son of Josephine Larriva and José María “Joe” Ortega López.

According to sources, Anthony was born in Indio, California. His parents Josephine was born in Canutillo, located in Texas, the daughter of Julio Larriva Rocha.

Julio was born in Lerdo, Durango, located in Mexico, and Josefa Rivera Carrasco was born in Julimes, Chihuahua, Mexico.

José birthplace was Chihuahua, Mexico, and was the son of Catarino Ortega Olvera. Catarino was from Villanueva and Zacatecas. Eduarda López was born in Aguascalientes.

It was confirmed by Jenna that her paternal grandmother is the daughter of Evarista Martinez and Fausto Perez. It was reported that her maternal grandfather’s surname is Lopez.

Jenna discussed her character in the series and said that Wednesday doesn’t blink. She added, “Tim likes it when I tilt my chin down and look through my eyebrows, kind of like a Kubrick stare, and then I relax all the muscles in my face.”
