Perham, MN (August 6, 2023) – The Perham community mourns the passing of Gertrude Ulschmid age 92, who peacefully left this world on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Perham Health.
Born on July 26, 1931, in Perham, Minnesota, Getrude was the cherished daughter of Ambrose and Helen Lonski. She entered into the bonds of marriage with Everett Ulschmid on December 28, 1953, and together they embraced life’s journey. After residing in Frazee for a period, they made Perham their home while raising their four beloved daughters.
Getrude’s professional journey led her to the kitchens of Perham Memorial Hospital and Home, where she diligently worked for numerous years before her well-deserved retirement. She found joy in the art of cooking, shared her time between watching QVC and engaging in friendly gatherings with loved ones, and embraced her hobbies of bingo and shopping.
She leaves a lasting legacy in the hearts of her surviving daughters: Barbara (Dean) Long of Frazee, Minnesota, and Susan (Thomas) Sund of Audubon, Minnesota. Additionally, Getrude’s memory is cherished by her granddaughters Angela (Robert) Johnson of Perham, Minnesota, and Amber (Jason) Collins of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; grandsons Benjamin (Allen) Ternus of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Bryan (Kailee) Ternus of Perham, Minnesota, and Matthew (Erin) Sund of Minot, North Dakota. Her impact extends to her six great-grandchildren: Lilli Johnson, Kailee Johnson, Ellie Ternus, Whitney Sund, Lauren Sund, and Taytum Collins.
Her loving husband, Everett Ulschmid, daughters Paulette Ulschmid and Karen Christenson, brothers Paul Lonski and Florian Lonski, sister Martha Ulschmid, and her parents, Ambrose and Helen Lonski, predeceased her.

Getrude’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service in Perham. Friends and family are invited to attend the viewing, which will take place one hour before the service. St. Henry’s Catholic Cemetery in Perham will be his ultimate resting place.
